A tough game was expected in our 2nd league game as we travelled over to play Brinscall village. Brinscall won our division at U11s and after a tough season in the top flight had been relegated back to the Championship. A tough game it was and a game of 2 halves.
Confidence in the team was high after beating Myerscough on thursday in our opener but you can be too confident at times and today was good example of that! In a lacklustre 1st half we let Brinscall dominate us from the off. We were 2nd to the ball on far too many occasions and unusually poor defensively. Im not one to make excuses for the boys but a couple of iffy desicions by their linesman and very windy conditions didnt help either. The ball was constantly in the air and Brinscall led 2-0 up at halftime.Failure to put a tackle in cost us the 1st goal but the 2nd goal should never have been as the ball was kicked out of DAZZAS hands but the referee allowed the goal. Questions though needed to be asked at halftime to all 11players ! The teamtalk was tough and the boys went out for the 2nd half knowing that they were "FAR BETTER THAN THEIR 1ST HALF PERFORMANCE" !!!!! They could either lie down and get beat by 6 or 7 or roll up their sleeves and get back into the game. Brinscall for sure were no better than us but they had definately wanted the ball more in that half! Straight from the off the Rovers turned up the heat on Brinscall but they would score again to make it 3-0.Failure to put a tackle in AGAIN!!! would cost us dear. This kicked us into gear and all the boys battled all over the pitch and ANDREW pulled us back to 3-1 with a much needed goal. A great strike from just outside the box giving the keeper no chance The Rovers then piled on the pressure with JAMES scoring to make it 3-2 with a trademark rocket. Going allout towards the end looking for the equaliser with Brinscall on the backfoot the Rovers had the ball in the net twice more but both goals were overruled. A third goal disallowed for us was a passback to Brinscall from JACK that Brinscalls keeper pushed into his own net. Not fair on him to be honest and im glad it wasnt awarded.Several more chances went astray with MORGAN DOM and JACK all unlucky not to score and MAXI wasted a glorious chance to equalise near the end.The amount of shots we had that went straight at the keeper was frustrating. The game ended much to Brinscalls relief..their manager admitting we let them off the hook 2nd half and not many would disagree! A disappointing result for us all and wel have to put it behind us.Our superb undefeated run may have come to an end but we will bounce back im sure. The boys hadnt lost in 10 games since aspull in april!!!. Next up is a cup game away again vs carnforth and then we are away again!!! vs Gregson Lane. Are we ever going to play at home? See you all at training
